NER Autocross Weekend: May 29-30

Written by David Bocchichio The biggest challenge for the weekend was definitely the weather with cool temperatures and rain for both days. A small group of people braved the weather for Saturday's Test and Tune, which gave the drivers plenty of laps to dial in their set up for the rain, and a tricky sweeper that would let you know when you had it wrong. This left several drivers picking gravel out of their wheels, including yours truly. Despite the weather, over 90 drivers showed up to compete on Sunday. Make no mistake, the real heroes of the weekend were everyone who volunteered to stand out in the rain to make the event happen. I want to extend a huge thanks to all of you! RESULTS: Live Free or Cone Hard Street Class In SS we had two drivers with top time going to 88 Walter Lunsmann in the 2015 Porsche GT3 with a 62.900.  In AS we had three drivers with 143 Mark Ponusky setting the fastest lap in a 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with a 60.866.  BS only had one driver with 68 Mike Dietzel in his 2019 [...]

Electrified Vehicle Advisory Committee

With the growth of electric and hybrid vehicles on the roads, and auto manufacturers announcing commitments to move significantly in that direction, SCCA has formed an EV Advisory Committee. The committee has a quick survey for members to complete on their current ownership, use, and plans for EVs. Please take a minute to complete. Additionally, any one with specific comments or concerns for the committee is welcome to submit them directly for consideration as this new category continues to gain traction and integration into our events and programs. EV Committee Survey Announcing New Electrified Vehicle Advisory Committee May 3, 2021 at 10:46 AM To show commitment to electric and hybrid vehicles and the enthusiasts who drive them, the SCCA has formed the Electrified Vehicle Advisory Committee (EVAC) to create unified procedures across SCCA programs for Electrified Vehicles (EV). EVs have won major events in SCCA Solo and Time Trials, and major manufacturers have committed to only electric in the future which has created a need for regions and motorsports circuits to have the capacity for the flow of interest EVs are generating. The 9-person committee is being led by SCCA Area 4 Director Dayle Frame—EV [...]

Summer Challenge Road Rally – New Date

The official date for the Summer Challenge Road Rally has been set. Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 19. From the Rallymaster: I’ve been out on the course a couple of times.  It’s a nice new area – South and East of Randolph.  There’s a few really good stretches of twisty roads over the Vermont hills.  It’s also a nice change from the Winter Challenge (and the Seacoast Scramble) – it’s during the day so you can see the countryside – and maybe see the control locations. Event Details When: Saturday, June 19 Starting Point: Exit 4 of I-89 in Randolph, VT *Running south and east to White River Jct and then back. Time: 10 am to 5 pm Register for Summer Challenge
