Cages, Seats and Engines When we left JB and Steve before Christmas, the two new B-Spec builders had both acquired their donor vehicles and begun stripping them down to turn into racecars. The ordering frenzy for parts had started, as well as the research on how best to build and fabricate the roll cage and fit a race seat inside the gutted shells. Engine decisions were also looming - stick with the donor stock or rebuild? Go Local or Ship It Out When it came to choosing a fabricator for the roll cages, both drivers had multiple factors to consider. The convenience of a local shop, or the hassle of transporting to one farther away? Costs, availability, and turn around times? And the extent of what needed to be accomplished? Although we lost two events early this year we were able to get 7 points races in over 4 race weekends. There are 5 classes of cars effectively based on engine displacement, HRG-1 (under 1300cc) to HRG-5 (all V8s and larger). All the cars run on track at the same time but only score points within their group. About HRG The NEDiv Historic Racing Group ("HRG") is a committee, under the Northeast Division of the Sports Car Club of America, Inc., which governs wheel to wheel racing for the SCCA accepted series formerly known as the Volvo Historic Series. The Group is not associated with any one region but is part of the Northeast Division of the SCCA. BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky (September 29, 2019) – The Tire Rack Time Trials Nationals Powered by Hagerty crowned champions on Sunday at NCM Motorsports Park after 194 entries competed to post the quickest combined TrackSprint, Saturday afternoon lap, and Sunday lap in an event that focused on the SCCA experience and comradery as much as the competition. The event combined performance driving – with competitor experience levels ranging from Novice to Advanced and cars that covered the gamut from daily drivers to track specials – and the fun of a four-day cars and coffee. From the start, the tone of the event was focused on the experience even while drivers tried to improve their lap times with coaching. Drivers were welcomed with the Holley Performance Day and Welcome Party on Thursday, an impromptu and unofficial potluck on Friday night, and the Hagerty All-Participant Party on Saturday evening. With three hours and 50 minutes of total track time available for all four days, plus two runs at the TrackSprint portion of the track, participants and cars were tested throughout a hot, sunny weekend.
