Farewell to our Weatherman: Bob Introne Passes Away

An Unexpected Loss Long-time NER member, well known throughout the region, Bob Introne passed away unexpectedly while traveling on Monday, October 11, 2021. A SCCA member for over 40 years, Bob started flagging turns in the 1970's. He quickly fell in love with SCCA motorsports and recruited many of his friends, establishing a corner working crew called The Road Runners. This team of flaggers became famous in the 70's throughout the St. Louis region, slapping their stickers on cars that visited their stations. He eventually obtained his competition license in a SRF, then moved from the corners to race control as a steward. He signed off on hundreds of novice logbooks and was instrumental in the development of many more drivers. Due to his years of service in the Air Force as a Chief Meteorologist for shuttle launches and DoD projects, Bob was always the region's go-to Weatherman for what to expect during race weekends. But his impact on the region extended far beyond whether drivers would race on wet or dry tires. Leadership was at his core. And through the decades, he stepped up to guide the direction and promote the growth of the [...]

NERRC Championship Weekend

NERRC Season Concludes at Thompson Speedway It's hard to believe the 2021 NERRC season is almost over. After the tumultuous 2020 season and the continued uncertainty for what 2021 would look like when we kicked off with our Driver's school in April, it is a testament to the dedication of all our volunteers and club racing leaders that we hosted every event successfully this year. While some of our national drivers will be away at Indy competing at the Runoffs, the New England Road Racing Championship Weekend Event will be taking place at Thompson Speedway the weekend of Friday-Saturday, October 1-2. NERRC Championship Decisions Heading into this final weekend, 12 NERRC drivers have already secured their 2021 Championship title. However, 11 classes are still up for grabs. The final placements from this event will determine who wins the season. Remember - points from Championship Weekend count for double! Here are the drivers that are already 2021 trophy winners, and the classes to watch where the final event will decide who wins. 2021 NERRC Champions AS - George Farrar  B-Spec - JB Swan GT1 - Joe Zanavich GTX - Maurizio Ceravoli [...]

36 NER Drivers Head to Indy for the 2021 Runoffs

2021 National Championship Runoffs at Indianapolis Motor Speedway One week from today, the green flag will fly opening the first day of Qualifying for the 2021 Runoffs. Over 900 competitors from across the country are actively finishing their final preparations, loading tow vehicles, and preparing to arrive at the famed Brickyard this weekend. This year's Runoffs is a return to Indy after the first appearance there ever in 2017. The track is opening for test days over the weekend, continuing with activities and action-packed racing through the closing ceremonies on October 3. In traditional fashion, three days of Qualifying for each of the 26 classes will take place Tuesday-Thursday, with the main event, one-race shoot-outs to determine this year's Champion starting Friday morning with the T4 class and finishing Sunday afternoon with FX. Coming from the New England Region will be 36 drivers hoping to leave their mark on this famed track. Of these, three drivers - Nick Leverone, David Oliveira, and Marshall Stocker - will be double dipping, so 39 chances for podiums from our region. 2021 Solo Nationals Recap

Photo by Perry Bennett of AutoXpix.com 2021 Solo Nationals Last weekend 39 drivers from the New England Region made the trek to Lincoln, NE for the 48th Solo Nationals event. After the 2020 event was cancelled due to Covid-19, it's not surprising that 1130 competitors in total, representing 45 of the 50 states, eagerly gathered at Lincoln AirPark to crown more than 60 national champions in autocross classes this year. With our 39 entries, NER was once again one of the largest regions represented at SoloNats. When all was said and done, NER put on fantastic performances, bringing home FIVE (5) 2021 National Championship titles, with an additional 9 earning trophy placements for the week. But to top it off, our drivers topped the PAX lists, proving just how strong our solo drivers are on a national level.
