Meet The Chair: Bob Davis, Autocross

“World class sprinters, ski racers, and Olympic swimmers train a lifetime to compete in a 10 to 60 second race. That’s autocross,” explained Bob Davis, the Autocross Chairman for the New England Region SCCA. As the Chair for the autocross speciality since 2010, he took over from Bob Lang and has dedicated the last eight years to improving novice retention, establishing a pro class, and improving operating efficiency to increase participation from 120 to 160 drivers per event. As his tenure as the Autocross Chair winds down, Bob shared what brought him to SCCA and Autocross over a decade ago, educates members on the role of the Chairman, shares advice for newcomers and those considering getting involved in autocross, and what the future holds for this form of motorsports. Bob Davis and his son Billy - Solo Nationals 2017 “World class sprinters, ski racers, and Olympic swimmers train a lifetime to compete in a 10 to 60 second race. That’s autocross." Tire Rack Solo Nationals Quickly Reaches Cap

TOPEKA, Kan (July 10, 2018) -- In only four days and four hours, the 2018 Tire Rack SCCA® Solo® Nationals reached its entry cap of 1,350 participants, an unprecedented feat for the Sports Car Club of America®.  Those who registered after the cap was reached have now been added to a waitlist.  If entry cancellations come in, persons will be offered a slot at the Sept. 3-7 event in Lincoln, Nebraska according to their position on the waitlist. Howard Duncan, SCCA’s Rally/Solo Senior Director, said, “I have been working with SCCA’s Solo Department a long time and never imagined that the Solo National Championship could possibly sell out so quick! This is truly a testament to the ever-increasing interest in Solo’s top-tier event AND the welcoming environment existing in Lincoln each year.” Last year, in 2017, the Tire Rack Solo Nationals set a participation record with 1,317 entries. That record may very well fall this year.  Whether it does or not, there is no denying the meteoric growth Solo Nationals has experienced over the last several years. A lot of that can be attributed to changes in the Solo landscape dating back more than a decade. In the 1990s, Solo Nationals already had a strong [...]

Father’s Day Cone-A-Thon

After three cold and rainy events to the start of the 2018 Autocross season, a beautiful Father's Day  brought gorgeous, tropical like weather for all the participants. 164 drivers, including 25 in the Novice class and 11 in the Junior Kart classes, arrived at Deven's Field for the Speedway Slalom on June 17 -  Points Event #5 for the 2018 season.  The Father’s Day event always seems to bring out some friends we have not seen in a while, and this year was no different with Elliot Shanabrook and his son Reid with the 2018 F-Street Ford Mustang GT.  Additionally, it seemed like quite a few regulars brought their fathers or sons along to enjoy the day as well. Russ Siggelkoe received the surprise of the day. His son and daughter, who had not attended an event in some time, arrived at the course to surprise him for Father's Day. He was beaming! The youngest visitor to the track was CeCe Kean, who will be 1 on July 1st. The oldest will just have to remain anonymous! Competition Highlights A few highlights on the competition for the day: A Street - The top 4 were within a second, [...]
