2023 Season Kicks Off at NHMS
The Club Racing program kicked off it’s inaugural NERRC points event for the 2023 season last weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. 145 entries enjoyed perfect racing weather over May 6-7 at Loudon. The CRB also offered a test day on the Friday beforehand, and would like to thank the workers that volunteered to staff the test day and made it possible for those racers.
There was plenty of great racing this weekend, including a large SM/IT7/B-Spec group, where the 34 cars broke themselves up into split grids to make sure they had plenty of in-class racing. This included Milo Milivojevic giving current B-Spec National Champion Steve Introne a run for his money. Milo ended up besting Steve in Race 2 on Sunday morning, and claiming the NHMS Track Record for himself. Milo is one to watch as he plans to challenge Steve at this year’s Runoffs. Steve took Race 1 and Race 3.
Sunday morning proved to be fast for everyone. Matthew Morin beat Alexander Cunningham by just 0.149 seconds in SM. SRF3 also saw multiple close finishes. Steve Owens beat Craig Chase by 0.092 in Race 2, and Josh Treffesien by 0.175 in Race 3.
Group 7 was a wild pack of FVs, 25 in total. Michael Hinkle, Chris Barry, and Gerard Owen Callaghan each took the checker across the three race sessions. Nicholas Galuardi was in that top pack all weekend long as well.
First CRE
This was also a CRE weekend, and we had a fantastic group of eight drivers. Four participants were signed off ready-to-race, two are recently licensed by a professional school and sought more on-track experience before jumping into the fray, and two are encouraged to return for more experience. Another big thanks to classroom leaders Peter Morrison and Dick Patullo, including all the on-track lead/follow instructors with a special shout out to several SE30 drivers who helped out on-track. There will be three more CRE events this year, so if getting licensed or helping mentor the next crop of racers is of interest, check out the details here.
NER Merchandise
Donna Stevens was on hand selling NER merch. She reported there was a lot of traffic and activity as our members stocked up on NER gear. As a reminder, NER Merch can now be ordered online. This was also the first event for our volunteer workers earning their TRPS through the new digital tracking system.
What’s Next? NERRC #2 at LRP
Next on the schedule is the Lime Rock Paddock Crawl, scheduled for June 16-17, Father’s Day weekend, where we run Friday and Saturday. Registration for both drivers and workers is open, so get signed up now.
