Move to Apex Entertainment a Big Success
For the first time, the New England Region chose Apex Entertainment as the venue to hold the annual business meeting and awards banquet for the region. Choosing this site proved to be a big winner with the members, as more than 180 people registered and attended the event on Saturday, January 4. This was one of the largest annual meetings in recent years.
Apex offered both smaller private rooms for the program and specialty break-out sessions, as well as larger conference rooms for the worker appreciation luncheon and evening awards banquet.
But the biggest draw was probably the wide assortment of entertainment activities on-site, that allowed members to kick-back and have fun with their fellow racers. After participating in the various program meetings, members could race go-karts, bowl, watch playoff football, play pool, challenge each other on the ropes course or trampoline park, or just grab a drink and share racing stories in the lounges.
Two of the highlights were the Karting and Bowling Championship rounds. Keep reading to see who claimed those titles.
Karting Championship
67 members were able to suit and race during the Open Karting and Championship races at Apex. Taking the top spot on the podium was the Solo team, with Derek White winning the Final, Nathaniel Stanwood claiming 2nd, Todd Kean 3rd. Nathaniel had the fast lap of the event (32.052s), with Justin Chen being the fastest in the Last Chance Qualifiers to make the Final field.
Rally took second, driven by Vojtech Kubec, Vaughn Micciche, Jacob Perkins. Road Racing claimed third on the podium with Kyle Colbey, Scott James, and Maurizio Cerasoli representing the club racers.
Bowling Trophies
Competition was not limited to just the go-kart track. There was plenty to be found in the bowling lanes as well. Congratulations to Brian Levesque, Chris Regan, and Paul Messier on claiming the bowling trophies during the afternoon competition.
Worker Appreciation Lunch
In between the specialty program meetings during the morning, and the annual meeting in the afternoon, the region held a luncheon to recognize all of the volunteer workers that are responsible for making our events possible. Each of the program chairs – Solo, Road Racing, Rally, Pit Talk – recognized each of the workers that has regularly volunteered throughout the year.
As one of the first specialty awards for the day, David Faita was awarded the Ma Philbrick Road Racing Worker of the Year award.
RE / Asst RE Awards
Additionally, the region BOD selected and named its two highest award – the Regional Executive and Assistant RE awards. For 2019, we were proud to honor two of our members that have a long history of hard work, dedication, and commitment to the region. Please congratulate JB Swan on being named the 2019 RE Award for his work with Club Racing. Donna Stevens earned the recognition as the Assistant RE Award for her amazing work with the archives and merchandise programs for the region.
