It Was a Packed Paddock
The cars and drivers are showing up for club racing in 2024. For our first road racing event at Palmer last month, more than 152 entries filled the paddock to kick off the New England Road Racing Championship season. One of the largest fields we’ve seen in recent years for a Palmer event.
Last weekend, that trend continued with our second NERRC event at Lime Rock Park. 212 cars took a green flag for the Paddock Crawl, making it another packed house! This included two run groups with over 40 cars (41 and 42 to be exact). On a short 1.5 mile track, that meant the traffic, passing, and lapping were all significant factors for the drivers this weekend.
Unfortunately, all of those cars packed together, with large speed differentials in some groups, resulted in a fair share of incidents on course. But for the most part, these were all quickly addressed and cleaned up, thanks to the large turn out of volunteers and workers who attended!
The weather proved ideal. Clear, beautiful, sunny warm skies (with the exception of that one brief rain storm that came in, drenched the track, then left as quickly as it arrived.)
Congratulation to the two drivers – Travis Washay in T3 and Thomas Kenney in FVR – who claimed new track records during their races.
Paddock Crawl
What’s become a region favorite, the Paddock Crawl party offered plenty of tasty options for drivers, crew, workers, friends and family to enjoy at the end of on-track activities Friday night. Thank you to all the attendees that prepped, cooked and brought their contributions. This potluck-style after party truly is a unique way to feed the crowd, socialize with everyone at the track, and enjoy an end to the first day of racing.
What’s Next
Next up is the one-day night race event at Thompson Speedway on July 6, as part of the the holiday weekend. Registration is currently open – so sign up now.
Also coming up is our TRACKSIDE EXPERIENCE. This will be happening in conjunction with the NHMS event on July 27. As part of NER’s Recruiting team program, this is a one-day event geared to showcase all the ways to volunteer at NER road racing events. This is perfect for crew members, family and friends. On Saturday, participants will visit each of our volunteer specialties – flagging, timing & scoring, tech, grid, pits, registration, EMS and hospitality – to learn what we do in each of these roles. Then after lunch, pick two, and shadow those workers during active race sessions. We’ll end the day with our annual RAL party and auction. Everyone who signs up gets a free lunch and dinner as well.
