Final Race Weekend Crucial

After a delayed start to the 2020 season due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the conclusion of the New England Road Racing Championship is around the corner. The final race weekend is slated for a Friday-Saturday event at Thompson Speedway on October 2-3.

Last month, the Club Racing Board announced changes to the rules for this year’s NERRC series, to accommodate the fewer race weekends and opportunities for drivers to compete. This week, the series points were updated after the Pig Roast weekend at Palmer Motorsports Park and for many classes, this last weekend will be the deciding factor in who claims the 2020 title.

Already Decided

For a few classes, drivers performed strong enough in the races to date to have locked in their championship titles. Congratulations to:

George Farrar – AS

Ron Coldon – FX

Glen Kurkjian – GT2

Paul Omichinski – P2

Mark Saviet – SRF

Maurizio Cerasoli – T2

These drivers can head to Thompson secure in the fact that their points in the season to date have earned them a championship trophy.

Multiple Classes Undecided

For the rest of the classes, the 2020 titles are still up for grabs. And in fact, some are so close that this Thompson race weekend could determine not only the overall champion, but 2nd and 3rd are just as undecided.

Expect heated battles in the following classes as the NERRC title and multiple podium spots will be up for grabs:

FV – 4 drivers

IT7 – 3 drivers

SM – 9 drivers

SM2 – 4 drivers

SRF3 – 6 drivers

STL – 3 drivers

T1 – 2 drivers

T3 – 2 drivers

T4 – 3 drivers
