Spring is in the air! Car shows, local racing, almost time to get out the fair weather gear. Winter always seems like it drags on forever as we dream about getting our cars out for the summer. Well, that time is upon us soon. Everyone is posting on social media about the changes that they’re making. We’ve had several folks from New England travelling to the Majors at COTA and VIR. Things are starting to ramp up.
What are your plans? Is it Starting Line at Devens? On Saturday, April 13th, Solo will be hosting what has become our annual kickoff to the Autocross season. Starting Line, presented by Tire Rack, comes to Moore Army Airfield for a great day of instruction on driving in an Autocross. New to Autocross or know someone who is? This is a great way to lay a solid foundation to your driving skills. Been doing it for a few years? Never too late to refresh good habits or reset bad habits. On Sunday, April 14th, there will also be a test and tune day at Devens to give you a chance to see how all of those changes you made are going to help you go faster.
How about RallyX? Is that your thing? Well, the spring RallyX season is almost upon us with the opportunity to thrash in the dirt instead of the snow. The Rochester, MA Spring RallyX is on Saturday, April 20th. It may be muddy, it WILL be dirty, and fun is guaranteed.
Road Rally starts their season off this weekend with the Frost Heaves Rally on Saturday March 16th, and the 69th Annual Cape Codders Courage Rally scheduled for Saturday, April 6th. Rally is a great way to get out and see parts of our region that you may not be familiar with. Timed segments on public roads, riddles to determine where you’re going, or just plain sightseeing tours throughout New England are features of a road rally.
For the Road Racing folks, there are 2 flagging schools scheduled over the next several weeks to give you an opportunity to introduce new folks to flagging, hear about best practices for flagging, and maybe even get a chance to put out a fire (controlled, of course). Palmer Motorsports Park will be hosting their school on Sunday, March 31st at 9am. Thompson Motorsports Park has their school tentatively scheduled for Sunday April 14th. Keep your eyes out for confirmation of that date. For all of you drivers out there, think about joining us for the flag school. It’s a great way to understand how the folks helping to keep you safe think and evaluate to make their decisions.
Finally, on a more personal note, many of you know how I feel about racing. It is my family. There are no better people out there than racers. Not just the folks behind the wheel, but everyone who makes cars their passion. It is a shared love. And you folks have proven to me again the tremendous bond that we all share. For all of those who have reached out to offer support and encouragement, know that it is very much appreciated.
See you soon!
