Last Chance Before Championship Weekend
In the last race weekend before the finale of the 2024 club racing season, almost 150 cars arrived at Palmer for the 6th NERRC race of the year. With a triple race weekend to compete, there was plenty of exciting racing to watch over the course of the 21 races held on Saturday and Sunday.
That competition was clearly evident in that 8 drivers set new track records! With the exception of our last CRE for the year, which had just a small contingent of students, there wasn’t a light group on track. The FV drivers had a jam-packed field of 29 cars, SM2 and Touring filed 31 cars out onto the course, there were 15 in the wings and things, 18 prod cars, 19 big bore, and 26 in our SM/B-Spec class.
For those watching from the paddocks and on the hills, there was plenty of passing through Turn 1, and lead changes throughout the back sweeps up the hills. A few incidents throughout the weekend required a FCY to clean up tire walls, but our flaggers and EV crews always responded quickly and the stewards did a great job of allowing most incidents to be handled locally when possible.
The FV drivers by far should get the shout out for putting on great racing throughout each race each weekend. The top 5 drivers were constantly battling, changing leaders, but driving clean and safe. They definitely deserved the Best Show award for the three races they gave us.
As a whole, club racing in general has had a very healthy and successful 2024 season. A giant thanks and congratulations should go out to the CRB and all the specialty chiefs for their organization, planning and fielding of a such well run events that have resulted in huge registrations and turn outs for this season.
With Championship Weekend being the last event coming next month, it will be make or break for many of the classes to determine season titles. Stay tuned to see who will have their season come down to those double points races October 18-19.
Ice Cream Emergency
One of the highlights of Pig Roast Weekend is always the ice cream food truck. With 8 flavors to choose from, 4 sauces, 8 different candy toppings and finished with whipped cream and a cherry… there’s a million ways to satisfy your sweet tooth at the end of a long day of racing.
A definite favorite for drivers, workers, crew and families, everyone enjoyed making their way through the truck to cap off their night after a fabulous BBQ dinner.
