NER Members Will Work New Runoffs Format at Road America
The SCCA® National Championship Runoffs® Presented by Sunoco is just a few days away, with practice and testing days starting on Monday. The Sept. 29-Oct. 5, 2025, winner-take-all championship event will see hundreds of racers returning to a recently repaved Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI, to battle for the right to call themselves SCCA’s next National Champion. This historic Road America circuit, with its 4.048 miles and 14 corners is set to challenge the best drivers in the world.
2025 brings some significant changes to the Runoffs schedule, as well as the list of classes that will be competing for the National titles. First off, it’s a much shortened week. Instead of 3 days of qualifying and 3 days of racing, workers and drivers will only plan for just 2 of each. Practice and testing will be open Monday-Wednesday, and then there will be just two qualifying sessions for each class on Thursday and Friday. Then all races will occur on the weekend over the Saturday and Sunday schedule.
In order to accommodate this shortened schedule, the number of classes competing had to be culled. Instead of 26 races and champions as in all years past, there will be only 18 races, with 23 champions crowned. GT1/T1, FA/P, GT3U/STU, FC/FF, and T2/AS will run combined race groups, but for 2025 still crown separate champions. Some of these classes, like GT3 and AS will be absorbed for 2026.
Heading to the midwest from New England will be 20 drivers and 12 volunteers to compete and work next week. The chart below gives an easy to reference schedule of our NER competitors, their car number and class, and their race day and time. Be sure to log on to the official SCCA YouTube channel to watch all the action LIVE on Saturday and Sunday. Audio broadcasts of qualifying and racing will also be available via SCCA.com/LIVE along with live Timing & Scoring. As always, the national office will be posting across all social media platforms as well, so keep an eye out for our local favorites and tag them if you see them!
