2025 Season Kick-Off
The first race of the 2025 season kicked off at New Hampshire Motor Speedway over the Memorial Day weekend. Almost 130 cars showed up, despite the less than ideal weather, which is seeming to be a trend so far this spring/summer… sun during the week, rain on the weekends. As the first NERRC points event, for many this was the first race after the long off-season over the winter and getting back into their race groove.
Four drivers proved ready-to-race, setting new track records at NHMS this weekend. Congratulations to Craig McHaffie in STL, Dave Maynard in GT2, Michael Kuna in STU, and Hans Morris in SE30. (Shout out to Aidan Dorvee in GT2 as well. He snagged a GT2 track record time during the first sprint race, only to lose it when Dave took it back during the second sprint race!)
Trackside Experience #1
The NER Recruiting team hosted its first Trackside Experience event on Saturday at the NHMS race weekend. While more than a dozen people were pre-registered to attend the event, unfortunately it appeared that quite a few were scared off due to the rain. In the end, the team had a good group of 6 attendees that were super engaged. 2 of those newbies came back the next day and were flaggers at stations 10 and 11.
Of those other four, one of the flaggers that returned had their dad with him, and he wanted to come back on Sunday, but was unable. Same with another couple that needed to leave early as they had a babysitter. The final one indicated that they were coming the next day to assist in the grid. Our team didn’t spot them directly while wandering around, but we hope they did make it back!
Massive thanks to Tom Kirchman and Linda for all the assistance during the event and the racers for causing excitement on Saturday for learning experiences.
There will be one more Trackside Experience this season. It is scheduled for August 15 at Thompson Speedway during the Last Chance Majors race. Please help us continue to promote the event, and if you’re able to help assist, reach out to Recruiting@ner.org.
