Here are the Nominees

Allen Briere

I have competed in Autocross, Rally Cross, HPDE , Time Trails, Track Night in America and Road Racing over the past 20+ years. I do work in the automotive industry but my main goal is to continue enjoying motorsports with a personal passion to get new people into the sport. NER Region has been my home and is one that I will never leave. With that said, I would be honored to support the region in any means I can.

George Farrar

Hello, my name is George Farrar and I will be running for my 3rd term this coming January for a seat on the NER BoD. Over the last 3.5 years I have been your NER BoD secretary. Over the last couple years I have met many of our members through one form of racing or another and hope I can continue to manage that, which means I’ll be attending a lot of events. Say hello and let me know what’s on your mind concerning NER. Hope to see you all out there racing and happy holidays!

Tom McGinn

My name is Tom McGinn, and I am running for election to the New England Region Board of Directors.  I have been an SCCA member since 2019 when I attended Track Night in America at Daytona.  I started wheel to wheel racing through an endurance series because it was the simplest path I found.  I have raced with multiple organizations competing in sprint and endurance races throughout different regions of the country, and after relocating to Rhode Island I call NER home.  When I started looking at options to move from track days to wheel to wheel racing, I didn’t have a friend or family member in the sport who could guide me through the process and that delayed my first race considerably.  I want to make sure that others are aware of programs like CRE as a path to racing as that is a very valuable resource that we should continue to invest our efforts in.  I am offering up my time to serve on the board because I would like to ensure that our region continues to thrive by bringing new drivers into SCCA and operating our events at the highest level possible to exceed the expectations of our existing membership.  In my professional life I oversee business development for a tax consulting firm and my daily mindset will be an asset as we work to secure the future success of the NER organization. Thank you for your consideration.

Karen Petersen

My name is Karen Petersen. I am running for the board because it’s time. I want to help our region keep growing. NER has so much to offer its members and I want us to benefit NER even more.

I have been a member since 1981, which is the year I began as a race worker on the grid. I became NER grid chief in 2000 when my friend, mentor, and chief, Bette French, stepped aside. Our grid has the finest workers you’ll find anywhere; we all feel very strongly about having drivers experience friendly support and our ability to problem-solve. There’s no “us and them”; it’s just US.

I have helped out in registration, tech, F&C, and pits. For a number of years I ran the workers’ raffles, and was head of the now-retired Workers’ Forum. For a number of years I wrote a column in Pit Talk titled Start/Finish, detailing events of race weekends. My longevity earned national grid worker of the year, RE’s award, Assistant RE’s award, and Ma Philbrick award.

The Workers’ Forum was created many years ago to address the chronic problems of worker recruitment and retention, a concern I have been hearing since day one. It amazes me that, in 2023, there are still folks who don’t know they, too, can be volunteers. We can do better.

Tom Samuelson

I have been involved with SCCA/NER for 6 years, and started the Spec E30 group with myself and 2 other cars. As of this writing, we are welcoming our 14th Spec E30 to the region and two more racers actively looking for Spec e30’s. Outstanding growth for our class.

SCCA/NER has been very welcoming and supportive of our class. Being a primarily volunteer driven organization, I feel the need to contribute my time to the betterment of the organization. I was asked to volunteer as (effectively) water & beverage boy for an event, and my eyes were opened to the significant effort that these non-paid people put in for my benefit: Grid, Corner, Registration, Stewards, Tech and scoring – all for my and SE30’s benefit. I feel I should put in my time to help.

On the personal side, I’m avidly involved with dog rescue. If you’re walking your dog in the paddock, I will hunt your pup down for scratch and hello! Also, a vintage Volvo fan.
