A Tale of Two Weather Systems

Saturday was sunny, clear, warm and beautiful racing weather.

Sunday was torrential rains, flooding, fogged windows, delays and racing mishaps.

The weather between Saturday and Sunday could not have been more drastically opposed. Saturday was what every racer dreams and wishes for on a race weekend. Sunday was nothing but headaches and messiness. But a packed paddocked filled the track regardless, and there was plenty of great racing on both days. The biggest shout-out goes to the workers that endured the wet and kept the sessions moving as smoothly as possible given the conditions.

Not surprisingly, the 5 new track records were all set during Saturday’s races.

Pig Roast & Ice Cream Truck

Always a region favorite, the almost 130 entries, which included a number of double-dippers, and even a triple-dipper or two, packed the tent and tables after racing concluded on Saturday for the pulled pork, BBQ chicken, corn bread, mac-n-cheese, cole slaw and then made their way through the ice cream truck for custom sundaes.

It was a filled track with all the racecars, crew, workers, and spectators for the weekend, with barely a spare spot to be found. Groups 1, 3, and 7 were the largest, with 30+ cars in the first two and 22 in the final group.

Overall, it was a very successful weekend, despite Mother Nature doing its best to throw wrenches at us on Sunday. The final weekend in the NERRC schedule – Championship Weekend – comes up in a month at Thompson Speedway, October 16-17. See you there!
