More Than Half a Century Spent Flagging
It is with a heavy heart we share the news that R. Allen Olmstead passed away on March 9th, 2026. A fixture on NER flagging stations, particularly at his beloved Limerock Park track, Al was known to all for his big grins, easy smiles, welcoming attitude and love of racing to everyone that attended NER events.
Al passed peacefully in his sleep at home, and requested no formal services. He was quietly remembered within his church family during services on the following Sunday.
In 2018, Pit Talk honored Al’s 50-year anniversary with SCCA with a profile here on Pit Talk. To remember Al, take a minute to re-read his story, which includes his oft-told story of rescuing Ayrton Senna during an F1 race at Montreal.
Rest easy Al.
