Last Chance Majors and Little LeMans Enduro
NER hosts one Majors event each year, which is scheduled for the middle of August at Thompson Speedway. Some drivers use this as their “last chance” to qualify for the Runoffs, hence how it’s become historically named. For those who already qualified, this is also an opportunity for testing and tuning against other nationally ranked competitors.
However, this year, the CRB decided to add a twist to the Majors schedule and add an opportunity for non-Majors drivers, or those wanting a bit more track time, to take advantage of our weekend at the Speedway. 2025 brought the Little LeMans Enduro.
This 2-Hour Club Race Experience (CRE) Enduro meant anyone with a driver’s license was able to join us on track this weekend, being it was a CRE event. It became a mix of Majors drivers, and a few novices, joining together.
The Logistics
On Saturday morning, after Group 3, the drivers in the Enduro had a 3o-minute Qualifying session to set the grid for the afternoon Enduro race. There were four SCCA National Enduro Experience Classes plus an Exhibition class used for this event. Then after all the Majors races were completed in the afternoon, the Enduro kicked off. It was broken into two, 1-hour segments. At the completion of the first hour of racing, all drivers were black-flagged and brought into the pits. This gave them the opportunity to re-fuel, change tires, change drivers if desired, and take a quick break if needed. Once this 15-minute intermission session ended, all cars were re-gridded, took back to the track, and re-started for the last hour of racing.
There were 21 competitors in the Enduro, making for some exciting racing over the two hours. At the end, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive from everyone involved. It provided some quality racing, plenty of seat time for those looking to build up experience, and opportunities for new drivers to get involved – all at a very competitive price. $250 for 2 hours of track time was quite the deal!
If you agree, feel free to reach out to the CRB and let them know if this is something you want to return next year.
